I turned 24 today.

I don’t feel any older.

I guess that’s not the way it’s supposed to be, or is it?

Time is so short. It seems that there are so many things that vie for the little time there is in my life and sometimes feel that life’s an exercise in futility. Contrariwise, I recall to mind the words penned by the Apostle, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”(I Cor. 15:58) I know that as I seek to do all I do as unto the Lord then no labor is spent in vain, yes and I believe that God has even taken into account the goof-ups and will work them all together for my good and His glory, “for You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek (inquire of and for) You [on the authority of God’s Word and the right of their necessity]”(Ps. 9:10b)

Today after opening the word the Lord brought me to Isaiah 49, in which the Servant of the Lord feels the same way.

“Then I said, I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and in empty futility; yet surely my right is with the Lord, and my recompense is with my God.” (4) Our recompense is with the Lord. Let’s seek Him. He will surely bring it [His perfect will] to pass in our lives.

The paradox and the prize altogether of the christian life is to be seeking, have sought and continually seek the face of God. To have found God and yet continue to seek Him. To have and own the Precious Prize of His face and fellowship yet continue chasing after Him. To hope in his mercy and steadfast love. Who can compare to this prize of a God? A Father to the fatherless and defender of widows, a lifter of heads. And what makes it all the more sweet is His precious love that He continually gives regaurdless of stature or achievements. Every touch of His love softens my heart all the more. No wonder the almighty answer to the first question in the Westminister Shorter Catechism says,”man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.” Who, with opened eyes can deny such a statement?
